About this pro

Mike is Metro-Detroit based guitarist and music instructor who is extremely passionate about teaching the guitar. He started playing the guitar at age 13 and has over 10 years of teaching and performing experience. After gigging and recording music with local rock bands, he began studying classical and jazz guitar with award winning guitar instructor Robert Gallagher. Mike earned his BA with honors at the Detroit Institute of Music Education where he studied popular music of all styles and genres with the best musicians in Detroit. Mike teaches the guitar by listening to his students goals and helps them reach them by creating a plan for every student. Whether you just want to learn to strum along to your favorite songs, learn your favorite solos and riffs, write your own music or learn music theory, Mike is the instructor for you.

I am extremely passionate about teaching music and the guitar. From early on in my musical journey, I knew I wanted to teach others how to play and better understand music. I love helping people become better at something they love doing. It;s the best feeling in the world!

Highly recommended, he’s easy to learn from, cares and has a great passion for teaching, I got some stuff to work on until my next lesson with him, anyone looking for a great teacher come to Michael.

I took a few months of guitar with Michael. The only reason why I had a stop was because I started planning my wedding/scheduling on my half. I wish I could have stayed forever! His high level of pedagogical knowledge is obvious when taking lessons from him. He says the student up for progress and success, all while listening to the students needs and musical preferences. Great performer and role model, too.

    Mike is prompt and courteous.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

In your first lesson, we will talk about your experience playing guitar or music in general and find out what your goals are. If you are brand new to the guitar, we will go over the different parts of the guitar and how it works, how to hold the guitar, the names of the strings, how to tune the guitar, how to read chord diagrams and play your girst chord progression. If you already play the guitar, we will go over things you already know so I can guage where you are at and create a plan to help you reach your goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have 10+ years of teaching and performing experience, took guitar lessons weekly for 10+ years and have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance - Guitar.
