With over 11,500 square feet we have the most spacious and parent friendly waiting area in Holland. Instead of waiting in a music retail store showroom, our clients enjoy a spacious, professional parent's lounge with comfortable chairs, Wi-Fi, magazines, drinking fountains, and complimentary coffee and tea. We also provide large observation windows on every door so that you can watch your child's lesson while you wait. Or if you prefer you can sit in on their lesson anytime you like.

Our rooms are stocked with everything you need for music lessons, including amps, stereos, full drum kits, keyboards and more. All you need to bring is your instrument. We have spent thousands of dollars on our studio to offer state of the art equipment and large observation windows. Feel free to bring your own device to your lesson in addition to your instrument! We can offer recommendations on programs and apps to augment your learning experience.
One of the things that has really set us apart is our focus on providing lessons that are fresh, new, and engaging. By doing so, our students have never run the risk of being bored by their lessons. It's a challenge to engage children and adults, but by integrating technology, we're providing a cutting edge lesson experience in the Holland area.
7. Free music recitals in local music halls with NO participation fees and an emphasis on FUN!
Every parent wants to know how their child is doing and if they are really progressing. The best way for a parent to understand if their investment in lessons is really worth it is to have their child participate in a recital. We make our recitals FUN! We strive to make our students feel comfortable with an easygoing fun atmosphere in our recitals. It's important that their first performance experiences are positive. We encourage family and friend to attend and cheer for every student performing.
8. Morning and lunch time lessons for home schoolers, retirees, college students, and working professionals.
We are a full time, full service music school. This allows us to offer lessons as early as 9am. We see many students between 11am - 2pm. If you are a home school parent, retiree, college student or working professional who has a flexible schedule, take advantage of our morning and lunch time lesson spots.

Due to our central location, our school is convenient to all areas of Holland and the surrounding communities. Close to our school you will find great shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Our location is convenient to and we have many students from Zeeland, Saugatuck, and Grand Haven.
10. Month to Month lessons.
The Academy does not require semester minimums for lessons. Every student here is on a month-to-month basis. If you are ready to start, you have nothing to lose as we only want students who truly want to be here and we will not commit you to a long term contract.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our instructors teach folk, country, pop, reggae and rock-n-roll styles. Beginners work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Each lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song. We employ a variety of method books based on student needs and preferences, and encourage students to bring smartphones or CDs to their lessons to learn their favorite tunes. Ages 5 and up.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our instructors have received their education from prestigious institutions such as Berklee College of Music and Hope College. Many have toured the US professionally and bring over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons.

Lessons are 30 minutes weekly, $30 per week billed monthly. There is a one time $25 registration fee.
How did you get started teaching?
Our studio began in 2004. Since then we have been providing quality Arts education to the Holland community. Our studio has over 500 music students as well as hundreds more in the dance and theater departments.

We have worked with students of all ages and skill levels. From young beginners to experienced musicians, we can take you to the next level in your musical journey.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My mom (Ruth Burkholder) took me to see the Harlem Globetrotters in 1980. I still remember how amazing they were and all the awesome basketball acrobatics. 44 Avalon students had the pleasure of singing the Star Spangled Banner at the Globetrotters game recently!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Finding the right teacher can make or break your music lesson experience. Our friendly instructors are highly qualified graduates of conservatories and schools of music with a passion for music and more importantly a passion for teaching. They are also experienced, professional musicians who are dedicated to providing personalized lessons to motivate you to keep practicing and having fun. We aim to deliver the best music education possible in a fun and enthusiastic environment. Our lessons are designed to help develop beginner musicians and challenge skilled performers. Not only will you be able to perform on stage, but you’ll also learn how to develop as a musician as well.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
We have an intake form that asks questions to define goals and interest so that we are on the right path for you. We have music teachers trained in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, blues, soul, rock, pop and more. We will work with you to determine what your needs and goals are, and use that information to pair you with one of our teachers for lessons in the studio. Our teachers have created fun and approachable music lessons for everyone. . Whatever your experience, whatever your goals, our award-winning staff is dedicated to making you the musician and performer you want to be.
