Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start out by finding out what music you like to play and what your goals are. To make sure we can make steady progress, I like to start building a base of fundimental musical understanding based on pitch, rhythm, harmony, and having fun.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I have over 20 years experience teaching guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele, banjo, songwriting, music theory and performance.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge a flat monthly fee for lessons, whether we have 3, 4 or 5 lessons a month depending on the calendar and holidays.
How did you get started teaching?
I started in High School, teaching other students in the band room after school. A friend of mine who managed a music store offered me a job teaching there and I've been doing it ever since. I love my job!
What types of students have you worked with?
Everything from absolute beginners who have no experience with music to players who are in bands and are looking to get to the next level of playing.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who has real-world gigging and recording experience. If you have any desire to play for crowds or to make recordings, study with someone who has done so.
