About
I'm delighted to welcome you to the Kids 'n Keys Piano Studio world of music. The Studio is dedicated to bringing music alive for piano students of all ages.
As an experienced piano teacher with more than 20 years of experience I bring a warm, nurturing environment to introduce the magic and joy of music to children and adults.
Students enjoy individualized study which includes music theory, notation, rhythm, ear training, artistry and technique. Each student's lesson is age appropriate and tailored to their individual learning style to promote musicianship from the very first piano lesson.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have a short questionnaire for the parent to fill out. Questions like "what subject is your favorite" "What frustrates you" "do you have a pet" "do you play a sport" "What do you do when you aren't in school". These questions allow me to get to know the child. We sit at the piano and I explains that we are going to play some music together. I show the child the piano keys they can use and we begin playing. They love that fact that it sounds so wonderful.
Then we talk and identify the black & white keys. I use little animal erasers that the child places on the keyboard to identify each note. I use Piano Pronto and Faber Piano Adventures as my go to lesson books. Each book includes note reading, piano technique and music theory.

How did you get started teaching?
I opened my studio in Vernon Hills Il in 1986 after my son's piano teacher closed her studio. It introduced me to the best experience of my life and has become my passion!
What types of students have you worked with?
I love working with all ages but have a deep love for teaching ages 6-18!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Schmitt Music offers workshops for piano teacher every year. This year they offered a recital featuring Grigor Khachatryan & his wife. A piano & violin duo....It was wonderful...Beethoven, Schuman....
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
An interview is a must. The teacher should offer a free lesson to see how the student and teacher work together. Be prepared to answer questions about practice schedules and dates you are available for lessons.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Piano lessons require practice at home. Students need to look at their schedule and make sure that they will have at least a 30 + minute time slot every day (5 days a week) to practice. Success will not happen without practice.
