About

Opus Music Academy is a full-service music school offering expert instruction on all instruments, including voice. Instruction takes place at the convenience of your home, or at any of our three locations: Plymouth, St Louis Park, and Robbinsdale. We continue with hands-on, practical, real-world instruction. We provide encouragement and guidance to help students develop discipline and confidence... while making music fun.

Opus Music Academy is dedicated to providing a solid foundation of musical literacy that will enable our students to make greater strides in any musical venture, or field, as well as assist them to develop a greater sense of self-confidence, and self-reliance.

Students of all ages and ability levels are welcome at Opus Music Academy. We recognize that every student will come to us with their own unique requirements and goals, as well as their preferred style of learning. We offer adaptive lessons as well.

Our teachers are music educators as well as professional musicians who maintain active careers in the performing arts. They're energetic, reliable, and enthusiastic individuals who possess the knowledge, skills, and savvy necessary to succeed in a challenging field. They are eager to share their knowledge and experience with our students, and will work with them in a supportive, encouraging manner to develop and reach their full potential.

Some of the most wonderful aspects of teaching music is the diversity of students, and how that makes teaching exciting. Every half hour or hour, you never know what will happen-what joys will be shared-what life lessons will be learned. Teaching music privately is so rewarding and fun, challenging yet fulfilling.

Our mission is to make music available and accessible to all, no matter what.

    Frequently asked questions

Each student will receive a complimentary trial Lesson.  This makes sure student and teacher are a good match.  Once the connection is made, we establish a positive and fun rapport with the student. Then, we establish good technique while applying musical concepts and repertoire. Theory is also incorporated to help develop a strong foundation in the language of music. The use of technology and fun apps/games relevent to the lesson are used during lessons as well.

Please see our website for each instructor's unique story. Kathy (President and Founder of OMA, and piano instructor) is also on the website.  Click on "Our Team" and then "Instructors" and you can see the stories of each teacher's journey to teaching music!

From Kathy: I have a student who takes Adaptive Piano Lessons.  He is 8 years old and is on the Autism Spectrum. He is non-verbal, but has taken an interest in Piano.  The first lesson, we weren't able to get him in my studio.  But each succeeding lesson he has grown more comfortable.  Most recently, he held my hand and climbed in my lap!  My heart was so warmed, and my soul overjoyed that he had grown to trust me that much.

Be sure to take advantage of a trial lesson! You want to make sure that the student and teacher are a good match, and that the goals and teaching/learning styles line up with each other.
