I'm originally from Seattle and have my BA in music from the University of Puget Sound. I'm a master teacher and have been teaching for over 30 years. My students participate in recitals, festivals and competitions, and have done very well. I run the Gateway Piano Festival in Saint Louis, and encourage everyone to participate. My daughters have taken lessons from Mrs. Foster for 3 years. I am amazed at the progress they have made. Mrs. Foster is kind, patient, and keeps her students on task. Mrs. Kathleen Foster is an excellent Piano teacher. She is very patient and understanding of her students needs. She provides a lot of encouragement, which builds confidence in students. Ive been lucky enough to have Ms. Foster as a piano teacher for a few years, and I cant say enough great things about her. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We will set up a trial lesson, see what books you have or could get started in, and go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA in music. I also tune pianos and am interested in learning more about the technical aspects of pianos.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Usually $30/half hour lesson unless more time is needed.

The Gateway Piano Festival is now in its fifth year, and growing each year. Check out www.GatewayPianoFest.org Students are encouraged to participate, and volunteers are always welcome. Usually it is the first Saturday of May.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who is thorough and who you have a good connection with.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Learning how to play the piano takes dedication and tenacity, so think about if you are willing to invest the time and resources it takes to become a good pianist.
