About
I have an air-conditioned studio just off of Haywood Rd. In West Asheville and offer instruction on guitar, bass, ukulele, music theory, songwriting and demo production. With years of perforance experience and a degree from Berklee College of Music my lessons are musical and exciting but rooted in time-honed craft.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with a free meeting to dicuss goals. The more I understand about where a student is trying to go, the more thoughtful I can be in designing a curriculum to get there. Before I begin with a student I try to gain a solid understanding of musical interests, past experience, future goals (writing songs, performance, play at home for fun) There are so many reasons why people learn an instrument - It’s my job to be a helpful resource in you realizing your specific goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have BA from Berklee College of Music. Since graduating I have played with several nationally touring acts including Midnight Snack, Dyado, Brie Capone, Carly Taich, and Matt Townsend. I am also an avid composer myself as the lead songwriter for the band Southern Pine
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $45 dollars per hour if the lesson takes place at my studio on Haywood road. I also travel to students, but tag on another $5 dollars for travel. Half hour lessons are $30.
How did you get started teaching?
I started playing guitar around 6 years of age. I was fortunate to grow up having several exceptional music teachers. They were great musicians, but also just great role modles that helped to shape the person I am today. Because I had such great teachers, I think I’ve always linked being a musician with also being a teacher. As soon as I finished college I started taking on my own students. The act of teaching makes me a better musician.
What types of students have you worked with?
I’ve worked with students of all ages and skill levels. I spent several years working at a school in Hendersonville where I worked primarily with younger students just starting. At my studio I’ve worked with students as young as 8 and as old as 80 each with varying levels of experience. I like it all.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently went on a month long tour of the east coast. I was playing bass with a band called Dyado and opening the shows everynight with my songs. It was a dreamy way to see the country.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise students to meet with any teacher they’re considering before signing up for lessons. All teachers have a different style. a student should choose the teacher that is going to make them excited to pick up their instrument and grow.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think through what their specific goals are. There are many facets to playing music - The more specific you’re goals, the more focused ouyr lessons can be.
