Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First things first! Let's make sure we're a good fit :) There is a short application that you fill out on www.ambernicoledilger.com to see if we're a good match for each other. If it doesn't look like we're a good match, I'm happy to make recommendations for other colleagues of mine. Students who do the best in my studio have a willingness to commit small amounts of time most days to practicing, and an attitude of playful curiosity to bring to our adventure in music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Musical Training at the Vienna Center Program in Vienna, Austria
Musical Training in Vocal Performance from Indiana University School of Music
Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Ball State University
Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Ball State University
k-12 Music Teaching License
Certification in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Coaching through the National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$80/hour is the regular tuition. Flex students can sign up for as many or as few lessons as they need. Discounts available for students who sign up as Core Students for the full school year. A heavily discounted Group Voice Class is available online, as well.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always had a love for teaching. In my original training I earned two Bachelors degrees, one in teaching music and one in performing music. I have always balanced the love of sharing stories through performing while helping my students learn to do the same.
What types of students have you worked with?
Chances are, I have helped someone very similar to you! I love working with students of all ages, ability levels, and genres. My students all have unique goals, and I am happy to have helped students get their first Broadway tours, be accepted into high-level collegiate programs like Boston Conservatory and NYU, as well as be able to confidently sing their favorite karaoke tunes.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Even during the restriction of the pandemic, my students continue to be active performers. From our monthly live online open mics to national level video-submission auditions, there's no slowing us down!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Singing lessons are about so much more than just learning to make sounds happen. Explore your potential-teacher's website and get a feel for their personality and how their students are involved in music making. Check out YouTube and see if they have posted videos. Do you feel inspired by them?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
You should think through your goals for lessons, both short term and long term goals. How can this teacher help me with my unique goals and challenges?
You should also think through your schedule... how much time can you realistically spend on practicing outside of the lesson? Does the teacher feel that this is an acceptable amount of time to help you meet your goals?
