I let students pick the songs they love! I host 3 Peer Performance Parties in my home for a more fun and relaxed atmosphere. (These are all online during the pandemic, but getting ready to video a performance gives motivation to perfect a song or two.) Having 2 pianos means we can jam together. The digital adds drum beats and fun instrument sounds whereas the grand piano provides serious students with a great instrument . Incentive programs throughout the year provide extra little pushes along the way!
I enjoy getting to know each child for who they are and what interests/motivates them. I love helping kids develop strong character traits through the discipline of music education. I count on strong communications with parents for all feedback so that changes can be made as needed.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to find out why a student wants to learn how to play the piano or theory. What they plan to do with it and what motivates them (performance, self-improvement, love of music and the instument, etc). Because we're one-on-one, each student can have their curriculum tailored to their needs.I
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I trained with the Royal Conservatory of Canada and have taught 22 years. I'm also continuing my education my scouring the internet for webinars, Youtube teachers, other master teacher interviews, etc. I'm always looking for new and good ideas.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I teach 2 terms a year, fall and spring. Classes can be 30-minute or 45-minute. If you are a child/teen, tuition is for the entire term for weekly lessons. If you are an adult, I offer a flexible schedule. Some adults prefer taking lessons every other week. Whatever works best for my students!
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching my own 3 children and their friends 22 years ago! I enjoyed it so much, I made a career out of it!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of students--from 5 to 55. I love the variety that comes from each age student! I love the adult who wants to learn something new, I love the child who is intrigued by this large instrument, and I love teenagers for trying to do it all!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what you want in very clear terms. For example, I want to be able to improvise, I want to be able to be a great reader to give me independence from a teacher later on, I want to learn about theory in order to understand song construction, I want to learn all about Classical/Modern/Beethoven/Chopin, I want to explore lots of different music.
