About

Hello! My name is Johnny and I’ve been teaching music lessons for 10 years now. I’m a multi-instrumentalist who specializes in drums, guitar, keys, and vocals. I’ve also taught lessons for bass and ukulele as well. I come from a musical family and have been around music all my life. Music is truly a passion for me and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and guiding students on their own musical journey. I have 9 years of teaching experience through School of Rock Charlotte and over 15 years as a gigging musician, playing with some of Charlotte’s greatest legends. I’m available to teach all styles of music for drums, guitar, and keys, as well as music theory and songwriting. Currently I’m only doing remote lessons. Feel free to message me for information on pricing and details. I’d love to work with you!

I enjoy teaching because it allows me to share my knowledge and experience with others while seeing the progress and acheivements that my students make. Providing students with a learning path that suits there skill level is my specialty and I strive to make lessons fun by allowing the student to learn songs or material that inspires them. Ultimately, teaching music is a passion for me and I like to help students develop their own passion for music through learning.

Johnny is a truly wonderful teacher. I have been working with him for sixth months now and I feel like my playing has improved dramatically. He is incredibly patient with me as I am a beginner and he’s given me great tips on improving my technique. I cannot say enough good things about his lessons!

Ive known Johnny for over 20 years. I see the passion he has not only for writing music, but also the passion he has for teaching music. His depth of knowledge behind the drums, behind a guitar, and behind the mic is next level -- drop everything and confirm a lesson now while he still has availability!

My daughter has piano lessons with Johnny and he is wonderful. She can be shy around new people, but was comfortable with Johnny right away and always enjoys her lessons with him! He is very patient with her and she has learned so much. I would recommend Johnny to anyone interested in learning an instrument. Super nice guy too! Thank you Johnny!

My daughter learned so much from her lessons with Johnny. Both vocal and bass. She was an apprehensive teenager that flourished exponentially! She became more confident and interested in learning more. Practicing on her own accord to learn the material Johnny brought to life.

    Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student I like to start with few questions to learn a little bit about their musical history and what inspires them. I usually ask them how long have they’ve been playing, if they have had ever lessons before, and what kind of music or artists they like. I also like to have students play something for me so I can see their style and where their skill level is. These things help me provide a learning path for the student.

I attended Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC for an associates degree in music. There I studied piano, music theory, and also achieved an education in Jazz performance. Around the same time I studied privately with one of Charlotte’s greatest drummers for many years. I’ve also gained a lot of experience through teaching, which I’ve been doing for 10 years now. Ultimately, all of these things contribute to my ability to teach multiple instruments and various skill levels.

I offer 45 minute lessons for ($50) and 30 minute lessons for ($40). Most of my students have 1 lesson a week and pay monthly. I also offer a 20% discount on their first month.

After college I started gigging professionally and decided to take lessons to advance my skill set. There I began to understand that teaching is a valuable part of music and also a career. It’s great because you can make a living and stay involved in music. My father is a teacher and musician so I also inherited both.

I’ve worked with students of all ages as young as 5 and as old as 50. I’ve gained a lot of experience teaching and understand that every student is different. I specialize in catering to their learning style.

Recently I played a show with my Dad in one of the groups we perform with. We got to play some of the songs I grew up playing with him and his band members. This was a lot of fun and definitely a recent event that I'm fond of.

I would recommend that the student take the time to explore their options and choose the instructor that best suits their needs. Every teacher brings something different to the table and it’s important to find the one that lines up with the students learning path.

I think students should ask any questions that come to mind in relation to lessons. A few that come to mind are; how much of a commitment is this, is this an investment, and what would the learning path be.
