About

I play and teaches all the orchestral string instruments, all forms of guitar, electric bass, and all forms of brass instruments. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance from Emory and Henry College and then went on to earn a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance with a concentration in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He has performed in many ensembles throughout his career including: the New River Brass Quintet, the Symphony of the Mountains, the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the Emory and Henry Trumpet Ensemble, the ULM symphony orchestra, the ULM Wind Ensemble, and the ULM Jazz Ensemble. He has traveled to Austria and Germany to perform as well as across the United States at events such as the International Trumpet Guild Conference. He currently serves as the Albemarle Road Middle School Director of Strings as well as teaching private lessons in wind and string instruments. He is a member of the National Association for Music Educators, the International Trumpet Guild, as well as the American String Teachers Association.

I love working with students to find their own path in music. Everyone comes to music from different pasts and with different futures, and I want to help them learn the things they want to learn, while also helping to expand their musical horizons and what is possible for them.

    Frequently asked questions

I first want to find out what they are interested in so that I can start developing a curriculum in my head. We will start off testing their knowledge of the instrument and see if they know anything about it and music. We then move to some simple exercises and songs to get them started practicing at home.

I hold a bachelors and masters degree in music along with over 80 more credit hours of work in music and the education field. I am also a North Carolina certified teacher.

$30 for a half hour and $55 for an hour.

I have worked with students as young as 5 and as old as 75. Some students have had some problems with a physical disability but we have found ways to overcome and produce beautiful music. I have worked with beginners all the way up to college professionals.

Find a teacher that you "click" with. Try to talk to them before you book lessons with them. This way you can see if they are a good fit for your learning style.

Have a goal picked out and ask the teachers how they would get you to your goal. Maybe it's a song you want to play, or you have something you want to do with your family.
