About

My teaching approach:

I have a Bachelors degree in music performance and have been playing for over 25 years. I have been teaching for about the last 15 years. I have found over the years there IS no "best way" to teach guitar. The "best way" is different for each student. I'm good at finding out what works best for each student. I have also played in numerous bands with styles ranging from rock, blues, folk, country, jazz to bluegrass as well as original material. Several of my more dedicated students have gone on to schools such as Berklee and currently work in the music industry.

My influences are:

Eddie Van Halen, Steve Morse, Jimmy Herring, David Gilmore, Dimebag Darrell, Brent Hinds, John Scofield, John Mayer, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Angus Young to name a few

My guitar lessons take place in:

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

Once again, everyone is different so I just "play it by ear" so to speak. Maybe get the student to play a favorite song or improvise over some chord changes. Communication is paramount. I want the student to have goals for themselves and I will help them achieve those goals

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

After I get to know a bit about the student (usually after the first lesson or so), I like to go over any material from the previous lesson that wasn't properly learned. Also, questions from the student are very important. I make sure to keep you focused throughout the lesson by asking questions and by giving you plenty of opportunities to ask questions as well. Also, I try to make the lessons as interesting as possible and still make them fun at the same time.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Eager, excited, determined, dedicated, patient, inquisitive and most of all you must LOVE MUSIC!
