I have been teaching music for over 20 years, and what I enjoy most about teaching is the joy and sense of fulfillment I have when I see a student attain a desired goal, and/or when I witness them performing with confidence. At Music Beyond Measure Studios, we do not just teach music lessons, but we help build character. If I can help make a difference in the lives of my students in some way, while equipping and enhancing them with the necessary tools they will need to be successful, then I have done my part.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, we always make it our business to greet our students and families when they walk in the door, making them feel at home. To ensure our students are getting the most value for their music, we like to assess the the skill level of each student to see where they are, where they would like to be, and make sure we have a clear understanding of their musical goals. Then, we teach accordingly at their own pace.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from North Carolina Central University (NCCU), Durham, NC. I completed my student teaching program at Guy B. Philips Middle School in Chapel Hill, NC, where later I taught General Music, Concert Band, and Chorus as a substitute Music Teacher. I have been teaching private music lessons for over 20 years. Instruments include: Voice, Piano/keyboard, Organ, Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, Fife, Trumpet, Guitar, Violin, and Drums. At our studio, we have qualified instructors that teach Piano, Guitar (electric lead and acoustic), Bass and Drums/Percussion.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, we do have a standard pricing system for our lessons. Lesson payments are month-to-month, and vary according to the length and frequency of lessons. Most students meet once a week, with an average of four lessons a month. A 30-mins private lesson is $27 per lesson/$108 per month; a 45-mins lesson is $40.50 per lesson/$162 per month; and a 1-hour lesson is $54 per lesson/$216 per month. There is a one-time Registration Fee of $25.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching music at my church. I taught private piano, clarinet and drum lessons, group piano classes, as well as our youth band and children's choir.
What types of students have you worked with?
I teach music lesons to children between the ages of 4 up to adults. I also teach music lessons to students with special needs at PHP, Durham, NC. I have had experience teaching music and movement classes in preschool/daycare to children between the ages of 2-5 years old.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My family and I always look forward to attending and performing at The Little Red Benefit Concert each year. This event takes place each summer at William Peace College in Raleigh, NC. It is a benefit concert in honor of Leukemia patients in the triangle area of NC.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking to hire a music teacher, it is very important that you choose someone who is qualified, friendly, and one who can help you achieve your musical goals. Most importantly, I think there should be a connection when trying to establish a rapport between student and teacher.
