Luke Baker: Piano And Composition Lessons
About
My name is Luke and I am a Pianist and Composer. I currently reside in Greensboro, North Carolina.
I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I studied Musical Performance and Composition.
I recently lived in St. Lucia where I worked as a music theory lecturer, project coordinator, Woodwinds Instructor, Jazz Band leader, Piano Instructor and transcriber at the Saint Lucia National School of Music.
I have received commissions for promotional materials and advertisement tracks from businesses as well as composed for a number of chamber series concerts in the academic arena.
I have performed as an Oboist in Carnegie Hall with the Highschool Honors Performance series, recorded the album ́Stories and Sanctuaries ́ with the UNC-G Wind Ensemble, and toured with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra under maestro Robert Boudreux.
Gigging as a jazz pianist and accompianist is partly how I got through college. I have performed as a solo pianist in several concert settings as well as instructed students of all ages and experience levels over the years.
Music is a joy and if you are considering strengthening your piano playing or in creating your own music I am comfortable to help you accomplish whatever your goals may be, including just to enjoy it.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The process for working with a new student is first to establish comfortability and a clear understanding of what the student´s personal goals are.
Once we know eachother and see where you´re at, where you´d like to be and what you want from being able to play the instrument or creating music we can begin implementing a plan.
If there are any immediate goals, events or groups you are commited to we can prioritize working towards those as well
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I answer this in my bio aswell and the professional experience and training that speaks to capability would be my recent employment as Piano and Winds Instructor, Theory lecturer, project coordinator, Band Conductor and transcriber with the St. Lucia School of Music, my engagement as an oboist with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, my degree in Musical Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, my commissions for advertisement music from Leadership Team Development Inc.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find an instructor who will work with you; someone who will stretch you to leave every lesson having accomplished something but whom you feel connected to as well. Music is to be enjoyed as well as respected
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about your goals. Think about what you want out of music and feel free to talk that through with your teacher.
