My teaching approach:

My teaching approach is relaxed, practical and focused. I focus on coaching the student towards being able to play the music they like smoothly and effectively. For students who are interested, I do teach music theory and/or note reading. However, I don't require these to be a part of the lessons if the student simply wants to focus on learning to play songs.

I find out what kinds of music they like to listen to and what their goals are. For complete beginners I explain my teaching approach and we start on our first song. For more experienced students, I'll ask more questions to find out what they already know and where the starting point will be for our lessons.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Someone who wants to learn to play (or improve their playing) because they love music and the guitar. Someone who is willing and able to put in the work required to improve, and who understands that learning the guitar isn't easy.
