Cloud Music Academy
About
Cloud Music Academy was founded by teachers for students. We believe anyone can be musical and expressive, and strive to create a safe and inclusive enviornment for student to learn thier passion. Every teacher has at least a decade of teaching experience in and out of the classroom. We only hope to share this experience with the community around us.
Learning music, like most things, can be overwhelmingly challenging at times. Every teacher has seen the look of fear or confusion. Even the panic that makes a student want to quit. Nothing brings a teacher joy and pride like seeing that light bulb go off. That moment of realization and understanding that makes a student feel like the sky is the limit. This is why we teach.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is an ideal time for a students and teachers to get to know each other. During that time we evaluate the students goals, strength and weaknesses. Then together we devise a plan that will include practice goals, educational materials and a schedule that fits the students needs and schedule. We often ask for a list of music the student likes during our first lesson, so we can mix it into the lesson plan.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Most of our teachers hold a Bachelor's degree in music and have at least 10 years of teaching experience in and around Greensboro. Whether they are perfoming or organizing, they are constantly involved in the community.

How did you get started teaching?
"For many of us, teaching started as a side gig to help with whatever life throws at us. But, then it becomes more of a passion and many of us dedicate our lives to it. After 15 years it is still the most rewarding career choice I've ever made."
- Chris Cloud
What types of students have you worked with?
We have experience working with all kinds of students. We've had student start at 5 years old and 70 years old. We've worked with students who have both educational and physical disadvantages. Music is as diverse as the world and has no expiration date.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Choosing the right teacher is difficult, but each student deserves the right match. Here's a list of the most important things to look for.
- The teacher can communicate effectively. (explaining details are important)
- The teacher is able to listen to the student.
- The teacher can create a solid plan to achieve the students goals.
- The student and teacher get along.
- The experience should be fun and inclusive.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Student don't always have to know exactly what they want out of lessons, but having a goal in mind helps. For a beginner the most important questions are these.
- Do I have the right equipment?
- What books or educational materials do you recommend?
- Is this instrument right for me? (often this takes some time to determine)
- Do you teach theory, ear training, or music reading?
Private lessons are often catered directly to the student. It is never inappropriate to ask your teacher how to overcome a challenge or reach the next phase.
