My teaching approach:

I provide a comfortable relaxed environment. I want you to learn what interests you. I prefer that younger beginner students learn to read music. Mistakes are made to happen in my studio. Recognizing these mistakes and working through them builds confidence as a musician and as a person.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I like to spend a few minutes to get to the know the person and figure out their goals and interests. Then I either have them play for me or we talk about what they have or have not learned in the past. I try to make sure everyone learns something on the first lesson and has stuff to work on at home.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

This depends on the student. Below are some common lesson formats but of course it is different for everyone. 1. First half of the lesson used for reading music and the second half for learning songs the student enjoys. 2. Learning songs and the theory, ideas, and techniques behind them. 3. Whole lesson on technique. 4. Whole lesson on theory and applying it to the guitar.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

One that practices 30 minutes a day.
