About

My name is Rachel Blanding and I am a junior at UNC at Charlotte. I have been playing the piano since the age of 7. I started teaching piano lessons in 2017. I have students from as young as 5 years old to older adults. I have a specialized program for beginner students based on their age and interests. I also have teaching experience from tutoring 3rd graders in reading and college students in pre-calculus and chemistry. I started playing classical, but I am able to play any genre of music. I won the superior plus title for the South Carolina Piano Festival at the age of 9 and 11. At the age of 11 I stopped going to competition started playing as a hobby.

Playing the piano is a passion and hobby for me. Playing classical songs gave my the opportunity to escape reality, which helped me manage stress. I would love to share what I know with others.

Rachel has been so helpful as I’ve gotten back into piano lessons. As an adult student, it was difficult to find an affordable, yet knowledgeable teacher that would work with my busy schedule. Her lesson plans are very manageable and goal-oriented so it is easy to stay on track. I would recommend her to students of any level!

    Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student I first assess their skill level. If they are a beginner I will go through a schedule and program based off of their age and interests. I have specialized programs for beginner children and adults. If the student has experience, I will offer a lesson to assess their skills and to determine which path best fits their needs.

Yes I do. For beginner and intermediate students I charge 25$ dollars for a one hour lesson, 21$ for a 45 minute lesson and 15$ for a 30 minute lesson. If you have multiple children or want multiple lessons I offer discounts accordingly. One of the discounts I offer are one hour sessions split up between two people for 25$. Lastly, my prices for intermediate to advanced students are slightly less.

I have worked with children as young as 5 years old. Normally I recommend children to start lesson no earlier than that age. I have worked with all ages from grade school children, college students, young adults, and older adults.

When looking for lessons, don't take more than one and a half hour lessons a week. With piano lessons, the teacher is supposed to guide you and help you learn a piece. However, it is your responsibility to practice what you learn and perfect it before the next lesson. If you take more than one and a half hour lessons a week l, you are not giving yourself enough time to go home and master the piece. As a result, it can lead to you overpaying for lessons.
