About this pro

How would you like to learn piano, songwriting, or drumsin a simple yet fun way? I'm a conservatory trained graduate with 35 years music experience, opened for Grammy Award Winners, and recorded music around the world.

I teach a play by ear (but learn the notes) style with chords and melodies added in just a few lessons. My students learn the basics from day 1 and are enjoying themselves on the piano after just 1 lesson.

My style is pop, gospel, worship, country and light jazz. It's a song learning style rather than note driven.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We first learn where the student is starting at and then jump right into learning notes. Students enjoy learning correct fingering as I accompany them.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelors in Music Education from Shenandoah Conservatory of music. I graduated and moved to the orient, composing and playing all around the world.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My lessons are $60 per hour ($175 for the first level 3 week course)

There are cheaper lessons out there but none as unique and enjoyable with song based learning.

How did you get started teaching?

I first taught k-6th elementary music in St. Croix USVI. I recieved honors including composer of We Will Rise, the anthem of hope now used around the world in many languages. I also taught in Burma, Romania, and the Ukraine. I also taught middle school and high school music.

What types of students have you worked with?

I've worked with every age. I have 4 year olds up through adults. I taught at risk kids and currently have students from India.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I played the piano at Duke Heart Center for heart patients and was able to lift their spirits through simple songs and hymns.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

They should check out who the teacher is via his digital footprint online. My work for years has been helping people to make this world better through music. Google Stefan Youngblood.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

When will I be able to play songs?

Can I learn my own songs?

Do you teach theory as well?

Can you really learn piano in 3 lessons?
