About

I have a great curriculum with lots of fun games and off-the-bench activities that help keep lessons fun and interesting for my students. I keep my studio small in order to afford my families the flexibility that they sometimes need.

I've always had a passion for music and the piano. I love teaching and I love to perform. I've taught piano and played professionally for more than 35 years.

Lessons for new students are typically 45 minutes to one hour, depending on the age and learning style of the student.  For children younger than five years old, I will normally do a 30 minute lessons.  During our lesson time, we typically will spend a few minutes at the beginning of the lesson doing a learning acitivity sometimes on the computer, sometimes a board game, we review assigned pieces and introduce new pieces and musical concepts. I do rhythm 'clap backs' typically with rhythm instruments that I have in my studio. We will do some music history, and improvisation/ear training. Over all, my students have a great time in the studio each week.

I studied music privately as a young child and continued into my adult years.  As an advanced student, I began to substitute teach for my own piano teacher as needed.  I studied music, child/human development, and psychology in college. I contributed written and recorded material to a music appreciation textbook during my time in college for Dr. Michael Naylor.  I have been teaching and performing professionally for more than 35 years. My experience in teaching and performing have given me great insight into the various learning styles and performance needs of my students. I currently hold a BS in music ministry.

Tuition is a flat rate (regardless of a four or five week month) that is paid monthly.  Make-up lessons for conflicts or illness are allowed.  Tuition pricing varies depending on duration of lesson times.

As an advanced piano student, I began substitute teaching for my own piano teacher.  I soon found that I loved sharing my passion for music and the piano and helping to develop the same passion in others.  Soon, I opened my own studio and have been teaching for more than 35 years.

I've worked with young children through senior adults. Presently, my oldest student is 81 and my youngest is five. These students all have had various learning styles and needs. I work with the student to implelement the best method for meeting the individual needs of the student.

I recently accompanied gospel singer, Eddie Reynolds on WGGS TV 16 in Greenville, SC.  After I returned from Greenville, I had a Halloween Fun Piano Party with my students, who all had a wonderful time playing games and performing their scary pieces for each other.

Piano teachers should be proficient in their knowledge of music theory, interpretation and improvisation.  The teacher should be pleasant and be able to teach the student with kindness and understanding.

Students should definitely think through the amount of practice time they can spend working on a desired piece. Home practice is the key to becoming proficient at the keyboard. Students need to consider not only the quantity of practice time they do, but also the quality.  My lessons include practice strategies to help the student learn to practice effectively. Once they are practicing effectively, they should be able to master most music at the level they are working in.
