Chris can work with anybody from a beginner like me to someone very advanced. He always had the right balance between pushing me forward and showing enough patience so that I didnt lose confidence. His knowledge and teaching ability gave me complete confidence that I was learning solid fundamentals on guitar and in music more generally. He is a very decent person and easy to get along with. I feel very lucky that he was my teacher.

An excellent instructor. Most notably, there are many lessons that were taught which cant be learned online, especially with technique. I have really appreciated every personalized lesson, and he has greatly improved my guitar playing. Very affordable and knowledgeable.

Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student, the first thing I do is find out what the student's musical goals and influences are. This allows me to customize the lessons to that students individual needs. Once we have determined where the student wants to go with guitar we can work together to plot a course that provides the most benefit for the student.

I have a Master's of Music degree in Classical guitar performance and a Bachelor of Science in general music. Over the years I have studied classical guitar with Mike Coates, jazz guitar with Tim Holfelt and Mike Krajewski, and rock guitar with Steve Stine. I have also had the opportunity to be part of masterclasses with the world-renowned Christopher Parkening, lutenist Phillip Rukevina, classical guitarist Michael Chapdelaine, and the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet.

I got started teaching because I had a friend who wanted to learn how to play guitar. After that I was approached by a co-worker who wanted lessons for her son. I realized that I thouroughly enjoyed teaching and decided to make a carre out of it.

I have worked with students of all levels from absolute beginners to advanced players. I have taught students of classicla guitar, jazz guitar, rock and blues styles as well as acoustic guitarists.

FInd a teacher who makes the lessons about you and whose main focus is to make you a better overall musician. It also helps to find a teacher whose personality meshes well with your own.

What are my goals on guitar? Do I want to learn the instrument or learn songs? Am I open to the idea of trying to play new styles? Am I willing to put in the practice time and realize that great playing comes through dedication and hard work?
