Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I teach students of all experience levels, so the first lesson might look very different from student to student. For students who are not new to the instrument, I try to see where they are technically and musically to evaluate what our next steps should be. For brand new students, the first steps include finding an instrument and getting set up with the basics, and also hearing from them why they want to play.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BM from Manhattan School of Music, and I'm currently working on my MM.
How did you get started teaching?
My parents are both teachers, and my first teacher was my mother. My father has taught more in a clasroom setting while my mother has taught more privately. I have learned a lot from just watching how they work.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children who are as young as 7, and adults as old as 90! Anyone can play the violin, and it is never too late to start.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It's important to have a first lesson with a teacher to see if they are a good fit for you before jumping right in to lessons. Make your goals and aspirations clear from the start, and find someone who can help you along that journey in the best way possible.
