About
Zura Kobakhidze is internationally applauded as one of his generation’s most gifted musical minds. His performances have earned critical acclaim worldwide in more than twenty different cities, ten countries, and three continents. He holds Master of Music Degree with the highest honors from the prestigious Juilliard School.
Parallel to his concert career, Zura feels passionately about sharing his successes with piano players of all ages and levels. Zura has experience teaching private piano lessons for a decade and has conducted piano master-classes, vocal choir coaching, and guest lectures at universities and schools around the world. As a private piano teacher, Zura’s style combines legendary Russian piano tradition and Juilliard's renowned curriculum with his own cutting edge practice methods, memory drills and performance strategies. Zura has experience in preparing his students for the ABRSM exams, piano competitions, and conservatory entry exams. He is skillful with diverse musical genres and transcribes songs for his students, individually tailors lessons, gives feedback on midweek practice, and provides insider knowledge of the industry. Along with developing personalized practice plans and techniques, Zura encourages his students to commit to their studies as the skills developed under his curriculum build discipline, focus, and brain function to improve multiple aspects of life. As requested by students and encouraged by Juilliard faculty, Zura is currently writing a book about his findings in piano technique, theory, and memory. Zura’s methodologies have allowed him to master some of the most challenging repertoire, such as all twenty-four piano etudes by Frederic Chopin and 3rd piano concerto by Sergei Rachmaninoff. His recording of Frederic Chopin’s Etude number 2 from opus 10, widely considered as the hardest piano etude ever composed, has earned him vast critical and public acclaim. Additionally Zura has served as a Music Director in Manhattan, transcribed songs for a Piano Educational App, analyzes and models song writing algorithms in popular music, and built his practice of private students (ages 4–85) ranging from beginners to professional pianists and piano teachers.
