Elana Violin Lessons
About
I'm a freelance violinist based in NJ. I am enthusiastic about playing and teaching and my students tell me consistently that this comes across in their lessons. I received my degree in music from Rutgers, where I was a recipient of the Marryott Music Scholarship. My major teacher and biggest influence is Neil Weintrob, a violinist widely regarded as having one of the best sounds of all time. I pass on his wisdom to my students. In addition to playing, I've taught for 20 years. I've run my own private studio for 15 years, taguht at various schools and programs, and am currently also teaching violin and viola at a local private school. Lately, in addition to my studio I have also begun offering violin lessons via skype. As a teacher I am patient, experienced, and care about giving my students the highest quality of instruction. My students have participated as concertmasters, principal players, and section players in All-County, Region 1 Orchestra, and the NY Youth Symphony. Feel free to contact me for more info.
What I enjoy the most about teaching is the way my students surprise me. A student that might have been struggling with some aspect of playing makes a breakthrough. It has such an impact on them not only as a violinist, but as a person.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I start lessons with a new student, the first questions I ask are about the student's previous musical background, if any. I go over with both the students and their parents what studying the violin entails, and what my studio policies are. I work with each student's strengths and weaknesses, and adjust my lessons according to what each student needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my music degree from Rutgers University. I have experience both as a freelance violinist and violin teacher.
How did you get started teaching?
I technically started teaching very shortly after starting to play; my siblings were my first students. Later on, in High School, I frequently got asked for lessons from my fellow students. I taught through college and afterwards established my own private studio.
What types of students have you worked with?
My students have ranged in age from 4-64. Their levels have varied from beginners to very advanced players. I've taught students with special needs.
