I approach my students on a one on one basis. I use all tools available to me. Books, guitar tabs, exercises, asending decending scales and chords. Etc.

Robben Ford, Chet Atkins, Freddie King, Albert King, Albert Collins, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray, James Taylor, Allman Brothers, too many more to list.
