Joshua is a very kind, talented and caring soul. He is very talented not only in playing music, but in teaching others. His kind soul is the perfect complement to creating a peaceful, easy feeling that lends itself to learning. I highly recommend Joshua for all levels of learning.

    Frequently asked questions

First evaluate where the student is and by asking questions and listening. From there we can determine what the student wants to learn, and developing a plan on how to get there. Classes include technical and ear training exercises and well as theory. I prefer for to help my students to grow as musicians and to get them to the point where they can play, improvise and learn on their own.

I studied music at the University of Northern Colorado school of jazz and spent 6 years in the music program at the University of New Mexico. I've also been fortunate enough to have studied with artists Dave Brubeck, Pedro Cortez, Chuscales, Pedro Cuadra, Chick Corea, Alex Skolnik, Tomate and many others. I recently spent 3 years traveling and studying flamenco guitar in Spain.

Lessons are $35.00 an hour and I also offer sliding scale for those who show a genuine interest in learning. Financial obstacles should never prevent someone from learning to play and or create music. There is always a solution, whether it be monthly rather than weekly lessons, or we trade work, we can always find a solution that will accommodate the students lifestyle and situation.

I started teaching kids while attending music classes at UNC as part of a community outreach program.

I have worked with all students of all ages and backgrounds from kindergarten to seniors to kids with disabilities. It has been my experience that there is always something to learn and anyone can find something to play on the guitar. That is one of the beauties of this instrument.

Look for someone who has experience performing as well as teaching. Talk to several teachers before choosing one, ask questions, chat with them for a bit, Look for someone interested in teaching and sharing, and with whom you can get along with and who you are willing to work with.

What style/s of music am I interested in?

How much time am I able or willing to put in to practice and study?

    What are my goals?

What do I want to achieve through taking lessons?
