Gil Martinez is a world-class boxing coach and trainer, and has been involved in boxing all his life.
As a youth, he was a rising star on the amateur boxing scene. Local boxing promoters recognized his natural talent and athleticism and kept a watchful eye on the promising teenager.
He racked up an amateur record of 72 total fights, with 67 wins and five losses. As he was eying a turn to pro, Martinez was involved in a tragic car accident that put him in a coma for a week. The injuries he sustained in the accident would not allow him to continue his ascent as a boxing athlete. Martinez, therefore, turned to coaching and has been a fixture in the professional combat sports scene ever since.
Martinez has been training elite athletes for over 20 years in boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts. He is accredited with the championship rise of many A-list fighters including Randy Couture, Ray Sefo, Vitor Belfort and Michael Chandler, as well as UFC contenders Ryan Bader, Gray Maynard, Mike Pyle, Martin Kampmann, Gilbert Durinho, and many others. Also Boxers. Max Ornelas, Randy Moreno, Andrew Tabiti, keandre Gibson, Lawrence King, Eleazar Contreras Jr.
In addition to his training expertise, Martinez is often sought out to analyze boxing and MMA opponents and devise techniques to neutralize specific strengths. He also has worked with the boxing youth of Las Vegas for years and has coached many to the Junior Olympics, Golden Gloves and regional and national USA Boxing championships.
