Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Understanding the students current level. Understanding the students desires and intentions toward their music and abilities. I instruct in multiple styles based on the students learning strengths. Some are more pattern and repitition oriented, some are more theory and execution oriented. Some like a more relaxed "jam" style of learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
2 years of basic music theory mostly relating to guitar and voice from Bryan Young Music, Wichita KS ('77-'79) 40 years experience playing guitar and singing in professional rock bands. 2 years teaching begginer to intermediate guitar at Bizarre Guitar, Reno NV ('86-'88) .. 4 professionally recorded full length rock albums on the online market.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$15 for 1/2 HR. guitar or vocal lesson.
$25 for 1 HR guitar or vocal lesson.
I do teach both at once, same pricing.
How did you get started teaching?
Opening came up at music store I was already employed at.
Very much enjoyed teaching all my students.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. Anyone over 10 yrs. Happy to assess special needs and disabled students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love starting a new year ! So many new possibilities !
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It does'nt really matter what teacher you have in the beggining stages as long as you're having FUN. The fundementals are primarily the same. If however you want to apply your new knowlege directly to playing songs off the radio or your favorite CD and possibly start on performance tips and tricks and pro developement tactics... I'm your teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Whats your intention ? Do you want to be a pro ? Do you want to be a hobbyist ? Answering this honestly will determine the intensity and scope of your lessons.
