Benjamin is a musician in the NYC area. He has been studying music since the age of 3. His background includes Violin, Cello, Percussion, Drum Set, Voice, Electric Bass, and Upright Bass. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music where he majored in Upright Bass Performance. He has studied with Dave Zinno, John Lockwood, Bruce Gertz, and Susan Hagen. He has performed with John Oates, New York Voices, and Kevin Mahogany, Becca Stevens, Mario Jose, Kurt Elling and many others.
Benjamin is mainly a jazz/contemporary musician, focusing on bebop through modern jazz, top 40, rock, pop, RnB, and many other styles. He is also trained in classical music.
Benjamin has been teaching privately for 8 years. He has a comprehensive approach that brings in technical study to any style of music. Benjamin will gear each lesson to the students needs and interests.

The thing I enjoy most about teaching is helping my students reach something that was once unatainable. Teaching is all about inspriing students to become their own teachers, and to reach high goals. I love seeing a student reach one of their goals, and the spark that is created when a concept clicks. Teaching music has always been something that is passed down from generation to generation, and I love being apart of the lineage of teacher and student.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student I will gage to see what level they are, and what their goals for the lessons are. Once we establish the intenet for the lessons I will develop a course that will help improve each student, while learning the music that they are most interested in.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music. I majored in Bass performance, and trained in both Upright, and electric bass.
I have over 6 years of private teaching experience. I have taught all age groups, and levels. My experience has helped me deliver clear, easy to understand lessons, that directly focus on the individuals needs.
I also have large format teaching experience. This has given me good classroom management, and I have a great sense of students' engagement. This helps me to maintain interesting lesson materials, all while improving the students' ability.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing is $65 per hour. If a student signs up for a month in advance, I will lower the hourly rate to $55.
I also teach 30, and 45 min lessons. These are just prorated rom the $65 per hour rate.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching during my second year at Berklee. A younger high school student raeched out to me, and became my first student.
I then slowly grew my teaching studio over the course of the past 6 years. All the while developing my teaching ability, and course concepts.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked will students of all ages. The youngest at age 3, all the way to students in their 60s.
I enjoy working with all different age groups, and ability levels. This forces me to be more creative, and focus on each student's needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A Recent teaching event that I am very fond of is while teaching a recent private lesson.
I have been teaching this particualr student walking bass line styles, and how to construct them. On this particular day I was teaching ways to add variations to the lines. My student grasped the difficult concept right away, and was pulling information from past lessons to understand the new information. This was amazing, because I could see my student was progressing, and internalizing the concepts we covered during our lessons.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell the student to hire someone who is an expert in their field, but above all, the teacher needs to align with the student. This alignment is needed on a personal level, as well as the student-teacher relationship. Some students thrive in nurtchuring environments, and some students thrive in a more hands off approach. The ideal teacher will be able to function in both rolls, and help each student.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think that student's should think about their intention for asking the questions (what their need's really are).
I also think that a student should never be afraid to ask a question. On this point, I believe that a good teacher will help the student find their true needs, and how to address them.
