About
Welcome! My name is Natalie Gray, and I have been teaching privately for over ten years. I have a Masters in Music & Music Education from Columbia University, where I specialized in Vocal Pedagogy, and a B.S. in Music Education from Hofstra University, where I was the recipient of the Herbert A. Deutsch Award for Excellence in Music Education. In addition to my private studio, I am on voice faculty for Molloy University’s CAP 21 Theatre Arts program, as well as a Vocal Technique coach for Musical Theatre College Auditions (MTCA). I am an Honorary Lifetime member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, a member of the New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA - I was their season opener this past winter), and a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
As a voice teacher, I am a conglomerate rock— versatile and flexible in multiple genres. You’d like to sing jazz, pop, music theatre, classical, country music? I am the teacher for you. At the core of it all is healthy vocal technique— this includes warm-ups, cool-downs, understanding your range and registration, vocal hygiene, finding repertoire that’s right for you, ensuring that you access your most easeful, effortless sound, to name a few. My approach is one rooted in science— as singers, we are vocal athletes using muscular coordination, and it should be treated as such.
In addition, I’m proficient in piano, so I can accompany lessons, create guide and accompaniment tracks, and approach singing with a deep understanding of theory behind it.
I also teach songwriting and music production. Many of my students have produced EP’s and singles in my studio. I have state of the art equipment, and I’d be happy to be that person to get you to the next step as a singer-songwriter. In today’s industry, YOU can be your own producer.
I also professionally film audition videos, so I can guide you through the college audition process at my studio, or if you’d like to film an audition video for your reel or prospective musical theatre production.
Overall, my approach as a teacher is one of kindness and gentle encouragement. It is important for me to create a safe, warm, and inviting space for students so they feel free to deeply explore their voices with confidence, which can be an inherently vulnerable experience. In addition, I cherish a lesson experience that is upbeat, energetic, and FUN. I want my students to leave lessons with clear goals on what to work on, but also with a smile on their faces. Music is about inspiration— challenging each other, but also UPLIFTING one another to achieve their dreams.
Your voice and artistry can be unstoppable— and it all starts in the studio.
