Hi Bass Friends! I am a lifelong professional player and teacher from New York City, who has done many years of concert touring and recording. Here's a partial lost of some of the people I've recorded and/or played with: Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Suzanne Vega. Bette Midler, Phoebe Snow, Christopher Cross, and many others. I've also written 2 bass instruction books for Music Institute, in Los Angeles. I'm looking for dedicated mid to upper level students who want to further their exploration of the art of electric bass playing. I'm extremely personable and patient, and at this point in my career I'm looking to pass on my knowledge of music and of the bass to the next generation of aspiring players!

I started lessons with Mike before my gender transition. Its no secret that female bassists can run into resistance, and often harassment, when finding a mentor. And for Trans and nonbinary folk, the scene can be GRIM. I was one of the lucky ones, to have found Mike V. Hes not only an incredible bassist and astute teacher - he has basic human decency. Hes also keen on organizing gatherings for basissts, so getting to know Mike opened me up to a really inspiring community. Im honestly not sure if Id still be such a passionate bass player without him. Definitely not as skilled! Thanks, Mike, for everything.

Mike is EXCEPTIONALLY generous with sharing his knowledge of both the music business here in New York City as well as with his knowledge of the instrument. Mike is an NYC bass treasure- one of the best out there. With decades of experience playing on hit records and touring with the greats, hes a true font of knowledge and experience and would be an incredible mentor/teacher for all levels of students of the instrument, from folks starting out to pros looking for insights into the biz. Ive had the pleasure of knowing him for several decades, and have always admired his bass playing- when I first started out playing bass in NY in the 90s Mike was one of the greats that I looked up to, and hes continued to be an inspiration ever since.
