About
Welcome to Becky Reesor Music (B.Mus, M.Mus)! This studio has been online for 3 years, and professionally teaching classical and contemporary pianists for 15 years. We train students for musical and pianistic literacy (reading, rote, imrpov, technique, theory) so they can meet and surpass their goals. Love of music is at the forefront of everything we do.
For exams, recreation or other projects, students play the music they love.
They learn to look at notes, and see music.
They learn to perform with confidence and enjoyment.
They discover feeling music with their bodies, not just their heads.
They develop their own music, seeing the sounds in their head come out of their fingers.

I love music, and all my musical training (M.Mus, McGill University, B. Mus, Canadian Mennonite University) has been about figuring out how I can get the music in my head out my fingers and through the piano. Studying with world reknown pianists, I was determined to keep digging until I found the answer. I scratched away and received significant funding to research age-related learning strategies. All has been to understand how music is made, how it’s written, how to treat it as its own language. Our entire bodies and psyches are involved in music making and music learning. We can use this to break through learning ruts and performance anxiety. This is a life-long training journey I am honored to share with my students, helping them with notable improvements from day one.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
New students attend a free intake meet & greet session which includes a mini lesson. Here, I listen to your goals for lessons, and we discuss plans to get you there. For new players (children & adults) we look my recommended methods and decide what is suitable for them. For more experienced players we look at their larger goals and make an action plan. For those looking at exams, we structure the year with milestones and mini performances, getting the best out of the process!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a master's degree in piano performance from McGill University and a bachelor's degree with a double major in both piano performance and music ministry. I have trained with world class ballet accompanists and church music directors, hugely enriching my musical perspective and skill set. Having been practicioner of both Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais, I highly value our mind and body union with music.
