About this pro

We create individualized instruction plans tailored to the goals and abilities of every student. My wife Suzanne and I co-teach our students...she is the expert in education and I am expert in piano technique. This is a dynamite combination, and we have done it long enough to know how it works the best.

enjoy passing my knowledge onto others, and saving them time by showing them the most economical techniques. These are based on a method taught by Juilliard Professor the late Gyorgy Sandor, who was a great performer, especially of Bartok, who he knew personally. I took lessons from Sandor and learned about the method from him.

My son is really enjoying his lesson. He enjoys the knowledge that he is gaining and the humor that is infused into his lessons. We are very pleased!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I hold the Artist Diploma in Piano from the College-Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati. I have the Master of Music degree in Piano from the Manhattan School of Music, and a B.Mus in Composition and Piano from the University of Connecticut.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$30 for a half hour, $40 for 45 minutes and $50 for one hour. Sometimes we give partial scholarships, and also through the Musiclink foundation for gifted young beginners.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching kids in my neighborhood when I was still in High School.

What types of students have you worked with?

Students of all ages and abilities.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I performed Liszt's Totentanz with the Olympic Youth and Cal State Los Angeles combined Orchestras, under the direction of Fung Ho, in January of 2017.  https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=totentanz+carpenter
