Ms. Yuan is such a patient and helpful teacher. Our daughter, Nina started her piano lesson with Ms. Yuan when she was five years old. She had problems to really sit down for a while and play the instrument but Ms. Yuan was able to engage her with the lesson through different kinds of activities. Ms. Yuan also gave us tips to help Nina practice or review the stuff when she’s home. Nina likes what she is doing at the lesson and she is practicing regularly at home now. We really appreciate what Ms. Yuan has done for teaching Nina.

My wife and I do enjoy the lessons with Yuan. She not only teaches us how to play the piano, but also coaches us four-hand duet. We have so much fun playing together!

Yuan was my son Sam’s piano teacher from 2014 to 2017. Sam had a great time taking piano lesson with her. We felt so sad when she left Boston in 2017! She’s patient, kind and organized. Sam always felt encouraged to tackle on the challenges in his piano lessons. He loved the lessons.

    Frequently asked questions

First, I would love to know about the musical background of my student. Zero experience on music? Some past/current experience of playing the instrument? This information would help me to know where the student is currently and be clear about which method book or collection of the music to start.

I will also ask the students or the parents, if the students are at very young age, about the goals they want to achieve in piano learning. These goals would never be fixed and can be adjusted at any moment during our learning process. I want to learn my student's goals to make a clear but reasonable plan for our lessons.

I teach at Willis Music Kenwood Galaria. I charge $30 per half-hour for the lesson which takes place at Willis. Tuition will be collected monthly at the first lesson of the month.

I can also travel to students' places to teach lessons. I charge $35 per 30-mins lesson, $50 per 45-mins lesson, $60 per 60-mins lesson.

I went to the Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory for my middle school and high school. It is a professional music school and the students there spent hours everyday practicing their instrument.

During the summer of my junior and senior years in high school, I was tutoring young students to prepare for the piano exams during the summer. I found myself learning a lot during the teaching. Previously, since I have been playing the piano for many years and practicing the piano for quite a few hours everyday, some playing techniques or music ideas just came out naturally in my own performance. When I was working with the students who did not practice extensively, I had to find efficient solutions to help students to tackle the technical problems and understand the musical ideas. This process led me to think about how I can play the music well more rationally. I enjoyed exploring this field.

I have worked with the students who are learning the piano for fun or just for better appreciating the music, the students who are preparing for music exams or competitions. I have also worked with students who wish to pursue music as a career. I assisted them to apply for the music department program in college or university.
