About
Music is my absolute passion. I couldn't imagine my life, and I wouldn't want to imagine a world, without music. Although just now returning to teaching after a long hiatus, I bring with me a lifetime of dedicated pursuit of musical excellence, and a wealth of wide-ranging experience. When teaching, my approach is to somewhat tailor the lessons to suit individual students' goals/ interests/ needs, to keep students interested in improving abilities relative to those goals/ interests/ needs, and ideally to help them develop their own passion for music. When I'm able to accomplish this, I feel I'm helping my students to grow and develop not only as players of musical instruments, but as unique human beings. At the same time, I feel that teaching helps me continue to grow and develop in the same ways, and also helps me maintain my own passion for music.
I've been playing guitar for nearly fifty years, and I've been fortunate to make my living as a full-time-professional musician for most of my adult life. I spent my formative years (plus much of my adult life) playing in numerous groups in the Northeast Ohio area. I hold an Associate of Arts Degree in Music (with honors & awards) from Cuyahoga Community College. I began teaching in 1990, and when I stopped in 2002, I had a roster of about sixty students per week. I've had lessons published in Guitar Player magazine, and transcriptions published by Cherry Lane Music Publishing. In 2002 I relocated to Nashville TN, where I made my living primarily as a full-time musician (live performance/ touring/ studio recording). In 2012, I returned to Cleveland OH, where I now continue to free-lance as a guitarist-for-hire.
