About

Music is my absolute passion. I couldn't imagine my life, and I wouldn't want to imagine a world, without music. Although just now returning to teaching after a long hiatus, I bring with me a lifetime of dedicated pursuit of musical excellence, and a wealth of wide-ranging experience. When teaching, my approach is to somewhat tailor the lessons to suit individual students' goals/ interests/ needs, to keep students interested in improving abilities relative to those goals/ interests/ needs, and ideally to help them develop their own passion for music. When I'm able to accomplish this, I feel I'm helping my students to grow and develop not only as players of musical instruments, but as unique human beings. At the same time, I feel that teaching helps me continue to grow and develop in the same ways, and also helps me maintain my own passion for music.

I've been playing guitar for nearly fifty years, and I've been fortunate to make my living as a full-time-professional musician for most of my adult life. I spent my formative years (plus much of my adult life) playing in numerous groups in the Northeast Ohio area. I hold an Associate of Arts Degree in Music (with honors & awards) from Cuyahoga Community College. I began teaching in 1990, and when I stopped in 2002, I had a roster of about sixty students per week. I've had lessons published in Guitar Player magazine, and transcriptions published by Cherry Lane Music Publishing. In 2002 I relocated to Nashville TN, where I made my living primarily as a full-time musician (live performance/ touring/ studio recording). In 2012, I returned to Cleveland OH, where I now continue to free-lance as a guitarist-for-hire.

Brian was a very good teacher with me because not only is he a great player but he taught me how to learn things. To break it down and go slow and build speed over time while staying in time

Brian is an extremely talented player. But more importantly, he is able to break down all those concepts that can seem so intimidating to a beginner in a way that is simple to understand.
Hes also a genuinely nice guy. Nothing worse than a teacher that wants to intimidate you, impose their musical tastes on you, or constantly make you feel like you need to take up some other hobby. Brian is not that guy.
He has a grasp on all sorts of musical styles and trchniques. No matter what song I brought or what artist I asked about he was able to work with me.
Now that Ive joined a band and occasionally find play out. I still rely on the concepts I learned from Brian.

Many moons ago I took a hand full of lessons from Brian. I was already a working blues guitarist in Cleveland and Brian was one of my favorite players in town. I stated getting into Country music and approached him to work on Country Chicken Picking stuff which Brian was so great at. We did work on that, but more then just riffs he gave me some ideas that I still use to this day. Not only was I learning country picking, but concepts that could and should be applied to all styles of music. Ive taken lessons from a bunch of guitarists over the years but only a couple of them can I remember specifically what they taught me and Brian is one of them. Besides being a great player and teacher he is also a great guy.

I always wanted to take guitar lessons. I had been playing for a long time. I considered myself to be a pretty good jammer but I wanted to learn more. I never did take lessons because people i knew who were better than me or knew more than me would not give me the time of day. I met Brian at a jam night. He is definitely the best guitar player in Cleveland. I asked for advice and ultimately started taking lessons from him. I learned so much and i am not done. I will be back to learn some more.
Brian is a very accomplished musician. His approach toward me was very direct and he never made me feel inadequate as a musician. Absolutely top shelf. Dont hesitate.
