About

Hi! My name is Katie and I am a student at Berklee College of Music in Boston. I received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in 2019. As well, I placed in the top 10 in the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society Scholarship Competition.

I have been playing the guitar for over 9 years, and I am excited to share my knowledge and passion with new students!

I offer lessons for these styles and everything in between: RnB, rock, blues, flamenco, fingerstyle, jazz, and classical. I am happy working with any level of player.

My lesson plan focuses on what each student wants to get out of playing the guitar. I am open to any style, and any prospective student! My goal is to help each person develop their own unique sound and approach to playing music.

Happy playing!

Katie Graves

I love helping my students grow and experience how awesome making music on the guitar is! I had the same teacher for eight years while learning the guitar, I know how important consistency and shared understanding is for learning.

I'm happy to share my knowledge and love for the guitar with as many students as possible. Teaching allows me to introduce more students to the joy of music!

    Frequently asked questions

I ask what they're listening to, what their favorite song is at the moment, and who they want to play like. Going off of that, I'll write out either tabs or sheet music for their favorite song. We will work towards playing in the style they want to sound like.

If the student wants to play classical I'll demonstrate the proper technique and give them songs they are interested in to practice. If the student is interested in Tommy Emanuel or Chet Atkins, I'll show them fingerstyle with and without a thumb pick, and so on!

I am attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, and I have been teaching lessons for two years privately.

I've been playing the guitar for eight years, and I have studied with various different teachers with different methods, through this I have come up with my own method and I am excited to spread the knowledge!

    For a half-an-hour lesson once a week I charge $15

For an hour-long lesson once a week I charge $25

I started when I was teaching young children in the spring of 2018, I fell in love with helping people connect to music and to the guitar.

I've worked with children, teenagers, and adults. The skill level is usually from beginner to intermediate, but I am open to players of all levels/experience. I will help students improve no matter the skill level.

Don't be afraid to ask questions! I want to make sure my students and I have a personal connection that makes learning this all fun! I am always happy to hear feedback and help students reach their goals.

Let me know who you love listening to, what you want to learn, why you picked up the guitar, and I'll get a plan together to help us both grow!

Students should think about the sound they want, the music that really speaks to them, and how much fun they'll have while practicing.

Music is hard work, but students should also have fun and enjoy themselves while practicing!
