About
I am a Nationally Certified Teacher (NCTM) and have recently been named the Certified Teacher of the Year for the Central East Ohio District, including Franklin, Licking, Fairfield, and Delaware Counties.
I teach students of all ages and have more than 20 years of experience. Playing piano is both fun and challenging and gives students a real sense of accomplishment. Music is a wonderful outlet for creativity and is a great stress-reducer. Duets are an important skill in my studio, and everyone loves learning and playing together. Duets also increase a student's reading and rhythm skills.
My students participate in two annual recitals, one for Christmas (we love Christmas music!), and one in the spring. They also can play at a nursing home, play for each other at group lessons, and participate in OMTA Scale Olympics on a bi-annual schedule and National Piano Guild annually.
I enjoy helping students to learn and understand reading and playing music. I love seeing their progress over time. Many of my students play at school or church and for relatives and find a great sense of accomplishment through this.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I find out what their musical goals are, their music background, and their expectations for lessons and practice. For Adult students, I recommend weekly 45 minute lessons, although I will accept 30 minute lessons if this is their preference. Then we determine what time will work. I then order books for them, although I have plenty of introductory materials for a few lessons before the books arrive.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken classes in piano pedagogy and have studied theory. I have also taken years of private lessons myself and have experience playing in church and teaching both adults and students for over 20 years. I am also an active member of Central Ohio MTNA (Music Teacher National Association) and my students may participate in National Piano Guild and other piano performance and education-related activities.
