About
My name is Tracy Qian. I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at the Ohio State University. As a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and The American Liszt Society, I am a passionate educator.
I received higher education in both China and the United States. I am aware of the advantages and disadvantages of both education systems. As an educator with both educational backgrounds, I feel the responsibility to bring educational diversity to students no matter where they are from. I can filter out the disadvantages of both educational systems.
I offered quality personalized piano instructions to students in Columbus, Delaware, Westerville, Hilliard, Dublin, Worthington, Pataskala, and other areas of Ohio. I accept students from beginners to pre-college level students. Nothing is more thrilling than seeing how music has different chemistry with different students! I am so excited to help students establish their own judgments, tastes, motivations, and teach them how to play the music by relating it to their own world!
About me: Having been playing the piano for over two decades, I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and hold my master’s degree in Piano Performance from The Ohio State University. I have presented recitals and performed in numerous countries including the USA, Austria, China, and Italy. I also work as an organist and serve at the First Presbyterian Church of Pataskala. I played the organ part of David Maslanka's A Child's Garde of Dreams with Ohio State University Wood Symphony in Dublin, Ohio in February 2020.
My work is not to normalize each individual. Seeing students develop their own personalities and interpretations of music is the most amazing part of my job!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I normally start with understanding students' needs, expectations, and goals. Instead of requiring students to follow the instructions, I will always bring out the passion and interest the students already have, to motivate and inspire them to love and enjoy the music.
Communications are the key throughout the teaching.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently a doctoral candidate in piano performance at The Ohio State University. I hold a master's degree in piano performance.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer 30min, 45min, and 60min lessons for students to meet their different needs.
How did you get started teaching?
I received higher education both in China and the United States. I know the advantages and disadvantages of both education systems. As an educator with both educational backgrounds, I feel the responsibility to bring educational diversity to students no matter where they are from. I can filter out the disadvantages of both educational systems.
What types of students have you worked with?
My students range from beginners to college students majoring in piano performance. My student's ages range from 4 years old to 70 years old.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just gave a recital at Hughes Auditorium in Columbus Ohio in April 2022.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a professional teacher. There are too many piano 'teachers' started to teach when they only have a little amateur experience. That is irresponsible for students.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do they want to learn the piano? In order to get to their goals, are they willing to commit to the time and efforts?
