About

**Learn Piano with Dr. Tracy Qian**

Whether you're just beginning your musical journey or preparing for advanced auditions, I provide personalized piano lessons that inspire confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music.

I am Dr. Tracy Qian, holding a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance from The Ohio State University. With over 14 years of teaching experience, I have taught more than numerous private students in Columbus, Ohio, and organized an average of two studio recitals each year for eight consecutive years. I am also a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

**What makes my studio different?**

Every student learns differently. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor each lesson to the student's goals, personality, and musical interests. Whether you want to play for fun, prepare for competitions (RCM, ABRSM, Piano Guild), accompany church services, or pursue music professionally, lessons are designed to help you succeed while enjoying the learning process. Whether your child dreams of playing classical masterpieces, movie soundtracks, Broadway songs, worship music, jazz, pop, or learning to improvise, lessons are designed to keep them motivated while building strong musical foundations.

I teach:

* Beginners through pre-college students

* RCM, ABRSM, Piano Guild

* Piano performance

* Music theory

* Sight-reading

* Technique

* Ear training

* Musical expression and interpretation

* Improvisation and arranging

One unique benefit of my studio is that students receive free access to my original piano arrangements, customized to their interests and playing level. This allows students to play music they truly enjoy while continuing to develop their skills.

**My teaching philosophy**

I believe learning piano is about much more than playing the correct notes. My goal is to help students become thoughtful, expressive, and independent musicians. I encourage each student to develop their own musical voice, curiosity, and artistic confidence instead of simply copying others.

One of the greatest joys of teaching is watching every student discover how music connects uniquely with their own personality and experiences.

If you're looking for engaging, individualized piano lessons in a supportive and encouraging environment, I'd love to help you or your child reach your musical goals.

    My son Daniel started to take piano lessons from Tracy about 5 months ago. She is very professional and nice. She encouraged Daniel to perform his own composition thunders at one of the studio recitals. We all like her very much.

    Frequently asked questions

    I normally start with understanding students' needs, expectations, and goals. Instead of requiring students to follow the instructions, I will always bring out the passion and interest the students already have, to motivate and inspire them to love and enjoy the music.

    Communications are the key throughout the teaching.

    I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from The Ohio State University.

    I offer 30min, 45min, and 60min lessons for students to meet their different needs.

    I received higher education both in China and the United States. I know the advantages and disadvantages of both education systems. As an educator with both educational backgrounds, I feel the responsibility to bring educational diversity to students no matter where they are from. I can filter out the disadvantages of both educational systems.

    My students range from beginners to college students majoring in piano performance. My student's ages range from 4 years old to 70 years old.

    My studio just gave a Spring Recital at a nursing home in June.

    Find a professional teacher. There are too many piano 'teachers' started to teach when they only have a little amateur experience. That is irresponsible for students.

    Why do they want to learn the piano? In order to get to their goals, are they willing to commit to the time and efforts?
