In a word, similitude. Though I have been a performer for almost 2 decades, I distinctly recall what it was like to be a beginner and how exciting it was to experience the gradual progress of getting better and more comfortable as a 'player'. I excel at personalizing the lesson experience to tailor the students' individual needs and goals.
To be candid, the opportunity to simply talk shop about music and guitar is a simple pleasure for me. Most people learning guitar are passionate on some level about music and will often spark an organic dialogue.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Finding out what they know already, if anything, and what their goals are and then tailoring a focused lesson plan accordingly.
Not every new guitar student will want to read music or play with a pick or study any new technique even. Some may simply want to learn to play a few of their favorite songs. I aspire to be attentive to those goals and know when to perhaps push and motivate them further if necessary, and inversely, when to pull back.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While I did study music in college, I've been a working musician for the better part of 20 years, primarily as a cruise ship performer so I come fully equipped with interesting stories over 30 countries lol.
I also have a historied experience teaching intermittently to over 40 students from a variety of ages.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40 for 45 minutes. $50 for an hour. If you are a complete beginner, I will likely be teaching from a lesson book which is an initial cost of about $10.
How did you get started teaching?
I needed extra income to supplement what I was earning as a performer who had just started playing full time, or trying to at least 😬😬😬
I suppose in the process, I discovered I was rather natural in the facilitator and encourager role. I have enjoyed building rapport with students and on multiple occasions have been invited to gatherings and/or social events.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly adults but often teenagers as well and occasional school children.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I rather enjoyed performing at a golf resort a few months ago in Muskogee Oklahoma. While it was a typical gig, it was also the most comfortable and 'normal feeling' live performance I had experienced in many months(due to the pandemic).
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone that you will be comfortable messing up in front of(as it will happen often). As exciting as being a beginner is, it can also be frustrating and overwhelming with ample new information and having a mentor capable of breaking it down and simplifying the process is vital.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Long term goals vs short term goals. They should have both.
