Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When a new student comes to me I make an extreme effort to get to know them as an individual, including their personality, interests, and learning styles. This helps me know how to teach them in the best way possible.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Vocal Music Education and Piano Performance. I've had training in vocal and piano pedagogy, education of the exceptional child, and other education courses.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $20 per lesson if my student travels to me and 25$ per lesson if I travel to them.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in my early high school days when family friends of mine asked me to teach their daughter piano. I absolutely LOVED teaching her and decided to pick up a few more students from there. I soon realized that music education is what I'm passionate about. I now have my own studio of students and haved loved teaching each of them!
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with beginning students in both voice and piano, up to intermediate vocalists and advanced pianists. I love to teach students of every age and experience level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently took my younger brother on a road-trip where we hiked the grand canyon together along with several other mountains and went to several National Parks. Some of my favorite memories ever definitely came from that trip!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who cares about you not only as a student but as a person. This is where the real magic of learning music happens.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your expectations? What do you want out of lessons? How much time can you realistically dedicate to practice? What are some ways you learn best (are you visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.)? These are some good questions to start with.
