About
I have been an OKC harpist, pianist, and composer for the last five years. I graduated in 2018 with my Bachelor's in Music Composition. I love opening up the world of musical expression for all ages of students! My website is https://www.hannahhelbig.com/, and my Facebook profile is https://www.facebook.com/hsh.harpist.composer. Check me out on youtube, too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQDEWcQ9OhY
The thing I hear most from adults when I tell them I'm a musician is "Aw, I have always regretted that I quit lessons when I was a child." I really wish that I could go back in time and be their teacher because WOW- I make a huge effort to ensure my young students are engaged and happily learning, and my adults are pushing towards their goal! The last thing on earth I want to do is to squash creativitiy or enthusiasm in my students. I find great joy in watching my students open up as people and artists as we learn. My role as a teacher is to inspire and assess exactly what my students need!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
EVERY first lesson I give is free! I introduce myself and then we dive right into the music. I am always eager to hear you or your child's goals and motivation for taking music lessons, as it helps me to craft curriculum suited to your needs. I teach out of my home in Northwest Oklahoma City, where I have a lovely studio.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my Bachelor's degree in Music Composition. I have been playing piano for 19 years, and I have been playing and performing on harp for 15 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer 3 tracks:
Kickstart: 4 30-minute lessons every week for a month!
6-month Track: 6 months of weekly 30-minute lessons, plus occasional group lessons, a Chrismas recital, and a Spring recital.
Year-Long Track: used by my longtime students who are committed to their craft!
How did you get started teaching?
A woman stopped me as I was moving a harp at my university and she asked, "Excuse me, do you teach? I've always wanted to play the harp!" And I said ".... sure! Yes, yes I do!" And she was my first student, a very beloved and talented student.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students ages 4-75!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I got to perform for a woman's surprise 80th birthday party in September 2020. I was a socially distanced affair because I set up my harp on her driveway, while she sat in her home with the front door cracked. It was so enjoyable to perform for her and more than that, hear her wisdom about living a good life.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the teacher you're looking for understands your goals for learning!
