I am Cher Kemmerer, a teacher, writer, musician, composer, worship leader, and so much more. I have a passion for music, teaching, and sharing what God allows to flow through me. I am a retired teacher who currently teaches piano, tutors, writes, and composes.
Music has always been part of my life; singing since I was three years of age in churches, weddings, and many other venues, playing the piano since I was in the first grade, and teaching my whole adult life. My first experience was taking voice lessons from Ernestine Williams who was from The Curtis Institute of Music. I studied music and education at Eastern Nazarene College and graduated in 1980. Ten years ago I studied piano with a piano master in Houston, TX who inspired me to compose music.
Teaching is a thread that runs through every aspect of my life and I am able to bring that to those I meet as well. From young to young at heart, learning is a process that should never stop, for it brings new life, adds spark, and interest to all we do. I believe in teaching the student a well rounded program of learning to read notes, theory including scales and building chords from those scales as well as technique, developments of the ear, and strengthening the fingers, hands, and back. Playing the piano is a physical activity and needs to be approached from that aspect.
Music is a language to be learned and experienced. It takes time to develop, practice to stretch and increase strength as well as muscle memory. It is a commitment to connecting with your instrument and becoming one with it. Letting music flow from the keys, through your fingers, to the world.
