Phyllis Lavetsky Studio Of Violin And Viola, Easton PA
About
Phyllis Lavetsky has 30 years’ experience in violin and viola. She has been teaching in the Lehigh Valley for the last 10 years. She maintains a studio of 40+ students from ages 5 to adult. Her students come from Northampton, Lehigh, and Bucks Counties, and the Poconos.
Phyllis’s studies began at age 11 in the public school system and with private lessons. She advanced to study with the principal violist of the Denver Symphony and the American Symphony in New York, as well as with faculty violinist and composer from Rutgers University. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Scranton, concentrating in child and adult development, which has helped her to teach more effectively to students’ learning styles and developmental stages.
Phyllis takes a student-centered approach whereby every child can learn. She provides enthusiastic coaching and a positive learning environment in which students become skilled, self-motivated young musicians. She teaches Suzuki as well as “traditional” string methodology and theory. She also supports and reinforces the curriculum of school orchestra programs.
Over the last few years, a number of Phyllis’s students have achieved first chair in the Lehigh Valley’s Junior Strings Philharmonic. They have ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at PMEA District, Regional, and All-State orchestra festivals. One viola student just participated in the 2023 All-Eastern Orchestra along with elite students from 13 states.
Phyllis’s students have been accepted into the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts as well as Moravian University for Sacred Music.
Over the summer, Phyllis offers chamber music workshops and every fall holds a large student recital/event with approximately 30 participants.
She is a Music Minister at her church, where she plays both violin and viola, and assists the Music Director at rehearsals.
From 2008-2016 she was principal violist of the Moravian College and Community Orchestra.
Many of Phyllis’s students have studied with her from early elementary school to their high school graduations. She considers it a pleasure and a privilege to guide them on their musical journey to become, as Suzuki put it in his book “Nurtured By Love”, noble human beings.
