About

Firstly, a little bit about myself, my name is Tom Shadrix, I've been playing guitar for 10+ years, and have studied under many different teachers over the years, all with different approaches to teaching and playing music. I've also got 3 years as a music major(w/a focus on guitar/performance/technique and music composition) attending Humboldt State University. I play/study a wide variety of music, and am trained in both classical and non-traditional approaches to music. Since the age of 17 I've been performing at open mics and forming bands wherever I am, and booking gigs whenever there's the opportunity to do so.

I am offering lessons and tutoring in many different avenues of musical study, including but not limited to the following: basic music theory, basic ear training, music analysis, music notation, sight reading, reading and notating tablature, basic guitar(nylon, steel string, electric)/bass guitar and piano technique, intermediate guitar technique(nylon, steel string, or electric/bass), composition, collaboration(ie. how to play/write with others, how to form and develope a band or group), approaches for gigging and booking/"getting the word out"(advertising), conceptualizing/recording/creating songs and albums, basic recording technique, songwriting, improvisation, basics of amplifiers and effects, experimentation, and performance.

Frequently asked questions

As a teacher I focus first and foremost on nurturing your personal goals as an artist, musician and student. I have experience teaching all age groups and hold no biases toward age, skill level, or the extent of ones learning ability. I also offer group lessons for those wanting to learn to collaborate on music projects with others, or perhaps some of you parents out there want to team up to share the benefit of reduced rates for group lessons! As a student of mine you will have access to all of my instruments and equipment during your lessons(once you have been trained to use them properly), as well as my practice/recording space if you schedule time to do so, we can figure out a fair hourly rate for the use of space and equipment if you need a place for solo practice. If the idea of learning any of these things(or perhaps something more specific) interests you or someone you know, please contact me via call, text, or email to discuss pricing and scheduling. I currently only have a few lessons scheduled, so my days/nights are very open, and I'm willing to teach or tutor during odd hours if you need accommodations of such a nature. Best wishes.
