About

Fret Factory Music School provides personalized private music instruction for students of all ages, experience levels, and musical goals in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania.

Rather than using a one-size-fits-all curriculum, our instructors build lessons around each student’s interests, goals, learning style, and the music they actually want to play. We work with complete beginners through advanced students, children through adults, recreational musicians, and students pursuing serious academic or professional goals.

We combine traditional one-on-one instruction with modern technology, interactive learning tools, customized materials, and audio and visual resources designed to help students progress more efficiently while making practice between lessons more organized, engaging, and fun.

Students also benefit from learning in a full music-school environment connected with Fret Factory. Instruments, accessories, gear, and knowledgeable support are available on-site. If you do not have an instrument yet, we can help you choose one that fits your needs and budget.

Fret Factory Music School was founded in 2025 by Ryan Chilcote, who previously served as Director of BCR Music School for 27 years. Ryan has more than 30 years of teaching experience and more than 20 years of college-level instruction. Today, FFMS brings together a diverse team of experienced instructors with backgrounds in private and college-level education, live performance, composition, songwriting, recording, production, and the music industry.

Our instructors offer lessons in electric, acoustic, and classical guitar, bass guitar, piano, voice, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, music theory, songwriting, recording, music production, and music technology. Our faculty teaches a wide range of styles, including rock, metal, classical, jazz, blues, pop, folk, country, musical theater, praise and worship, and more.

Lessons may incorporate technique, rhythm, music reading, tablature, ear training, theory, improvisation, songwriting, composition, recording, performance skills, and customized exercises depending on each student’s goals. Our focus is not simply on teaching individual songs, but on helping students build the skills and understanding needed to continue developing independently as musicians.

For students pursuing advanced study, audition preparation is also available. Over the years, students have successfully auditioned for music programs including Berklee College of Music, Duquesne University, Lebanon Valley College, Millersville University, York College of Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg University, Messiah University, Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, and others.

At the same time, you do not need to be pursuing a degree or professional career to take lessons with us. Many students simply want to learn an instrument, play the music they love, improve their skills, or enjoy making music.

Lessons are available in person at our Lemoyne location, with online instruction available when appropriate.

You also do not need to know which instructor is right for you before getting started. Tell us what you would like to learn, your experience level, musical interests, goals, and scheduling needs, and we can help match you with an instructor whose experience and teaching style are a good fit.

    Frequently asked questions

New students begin by telling us about their instrument, experience level, musical interests, goals, and scheduling needs. Some students already have an instructor in mind, while others would like help choosing one. We use that information to match each student with an instructor whose background, availability, and teaching style are a good fit. Once lessons begin, the instructor evaluates the student’s current abilities and develops an individualized approach. Lessons may incorporate technique, songs and repertoire, music reading, tablature, theory, ear training, customized exercises, and supplemental learning resources depending on the student’s needs and goals. Our goal is to make lessons structured and productive while still keeping the student engaged with the music they want to learn.
Our faculty brings together a wide variety of educational and professional backgrounds. Our instructors include university-trained musicians, longtime private teachers, college-level educators, performers, composers, songwriters, and recording and production professionals. Fret Factory Music School was founded by Ryan Chilcote, who previously served as Director of BCR Music School for 27 years and has more than 30 years of teaching experience, including more than 20 years of college-level instruction. Other members of our faculty hold undergraduate and graduate degrees in areas including piano performance, music business and technology, composition, classical guitar, recording, and music industry studies. Several of our instructors also have decades of professional teaching and performing experience.
Yes. Our standard private lesson rates are $35 for a 30-minute lesson and $70 for a 60-minute lesson. Dual lessons for two students learning together are $50 for 30 minutes or $100 for 60 minutes. Availability and lesson length may vary by instructor. Fret Factory Music School was founded in 2025 by longtime music educator Ryan Chilcote after 27 years serving as Director of BCR Music School. Ryan has taught music for more than 30 years and has also been a college-level instructor for more than two decades. FFMS was created to bring together experienced instructors with different musical backgrounds and specialties under one school, allowing students to find an instructor who is well suited to their individual interests and goals. Our teaching staff now includes musicians with backgrounds ranging from private and college-level education to live performance, composition, songwriting, recording, and music production.
Our instructors have worked with students across a very wide range of ages, backgrounds, abilities, and musical goals—from young children taking their first lessons to adults returning to an instrument after many years, as well as advanced musicians preparing for auditions, college music programs, performances, recording projects, and professional opportunities. We welcome complete beginners, intermediate and advanced students, recreational musicians, serious hobbyists, and students pursuing academic or professional goals. Lessons are personalized so that someone who simply wants to learn favorite songs receives the same attention to their goals as a student preparing for a college audition or music career.
One milestone we are especially proud of was opening Fret Factory Music School in 2025 and bringing together a diverse group of instructors with very different musical specialties and professional backgrounds. Building the school has allowed us to offer students a much broader range of instruction while still maintaining the personalized, one-on-one approach that has always been central to our teaching philosophy. Seeing students connect with the right instructor and develop their own musical interests has been particularly rewarding.
Look for an instructor who is not only knowledgeable, but who understands what you want to accomplish. The best teacher for one student may not necessarily be the best teacher for another. Consider your musical interests, goals, experience level, learning style, and how seriously you want to pursue music. A good instructor should be able to provide structure and proper technique while still adapting lessons to the individual student rather than forcing everyone through exactly the same curriculum. That is one advantage of working with a music school: if you are unsure which instructor is the best fit, we can help match you with someone whose specialties and teaching approach align with your goals.
Think about what you would most like to accomplish with lessons. Are you a complete beginner, returning to music, trying to improve a particular skill, preparing for an audition, learning favorite songs, joining a band, writing music, or pursuing more advanced study? It is also helpful to think about the styles of music you enjoy, whether you already own an instrument, your previous musical experience, how much time you realistically have available to practice, and your scheduling needs. You do not need to have everything figured out before contacting us. Part of our job is helping students identify their goals and matching them with an instructor who can provide the right direction. I’d use those as-is for now. They reinforce the main Introduction without simply repeating it, and they make the profile look much more complete.
