About
Making music is something each of us can do! We sang when we were children (even if we've forgotten about that now) and never worried about whether we were "good" (whatever that means, anyway).
Piano is a great place to start; it's like having an entire orchestra under your hands! Even if you're aiming for another instrument (including voice), your piano playing will help you understand music and give you a great foundation.
I have played professionally for 45+ years and taught privately for 35+ years. Students have ranged from age 6 to age 98 and have been players at all levels.
We learn technique, repertoire, and music theory. If the student is interested, we learn improvisation and how to read from a lead sheet (chord symbols and melody; kind of like giving a speech from an outline rather than having each word printed out for us).
One of the most important things we study at lessons is how to learn and, a subset of that, how to practice. (This is so that if all the piano teachers in the world are rounded up and sent to another planet, you'll still know how to work on your music.)
Playing music is like nothing else on Earth -- come and learn!
