Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always like to assess where the student is currently with regards to skills in both reading and repertoire by having them play songs they already know and trying out new songs to find the best fit to be successful with the methodology. If they are beginning students, I assess how quickly they will learn based upon age and ability and recommend a well suited curriculum tailored to their needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Pennsylvania certified Music Teacher K-12 as well as Association of Christian Schools International certified All Levels Music and Bible Teacher Professional. I have a Bachelor of Science in Bible and a Masters of Arts in Bible from Lancaster Bible College and Graduate School. All of my required clearances are maintained.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do have a standard pricing system. Please contact me for current pricing.
How did you get started teaching?
I, Scott Lingo, began my journey as a musician when I was in first grade taking piano lessons. In fourth grade I began to learn percussion and played in the band through middle school. In eighth grade I participated in the Association of Christian Schools International fine arts festival attaining an Excellence Award in Piano Performance. By the time I reached high school I was singing and accompanying in traveling choirs, giving recitals, and composing music. As a senior, I received a “Superior” award in Piano Composition. I then continued on to college to become a certified music teacher K-12.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught English as a second language in Spain and sang in a choir that debuted Mendelssohn's Elijah in Castilian Spanish in Spain (though I myself do not speak Spanish fluently).
I have taught music K-12 in a variety of settings since 2000 both full time and part time as well as a substitute teacher in public schools and Christian schools including Lancaster Mennonite High School and New Danville, Locust Grove, Dayspring Christian Academy, Linville Hill Mennonite, Lampeter-Strasburg, Penn Manor, Solanco School District, Manheim Township, School District of Lancaster, York City School District, Pequa Valley School District, Elizabethtown, Christian School of York, and Milton Hershey School.
Not only do I have experience teaching various other subjects as a substitute teacher, but also have held the title of Homebound Instructor and Instruction in the Home Teacher for Solanco and Lampeter-Strasburg School Districts working with special needs students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Definately find a teacher who is encouarging even when you make mistakes. Only through mistakes can we learn to get better.
