About

In my experience It is paramount to start off young students with the proper foundation. Even advanced students who are referred to me, can benefit from sound technical training. I offer solutions to many of the problems that string players have. Over the years I raised my three children two who are professionally playing. I have been teaching over 34 years in a number of venues. I know the pitfalls and how to make learning a successful fun experience. I am certified in the Suzuki Method and had many years of lessons with Dolly Koritzer. Please see my website for more details at www.lohsestudiomusic.com

You could say that I am very methodical in my teaching style but I am enthusiastic and very motivated to get good results.

Each individual is unique and special. Studying music is a opportunity to develop their potential as a player as well as mature in their character. I enjoy teaching as its my passion. Since I first laid my hands on a violin, I have loved the experience learning on the violin and playing in orchestras. Along with teaching strings, I have a strong foundation in piano. It was my first instrument. Each student brings something special to the lessons in terms of ability personality and character. I enjoy seeing how they improve in their style of playing. If they are a transfer student many have to improve by make changes in their intonation or bowing style.

    Frequently asked questions

I start with what I call the interview. We get to meet each other and ask questions to find out if we are a good match. Sometimes it turns into an informal lesson to demonstrate how I teach. I also go over the business end of things so they are clear on how payments are made. then; i may explain what curriculum I use and what recommendations that I would make based of the student's level of experience. I answer any questions they might have about me.
I use a quarterly or by semester payment plan for the academic year. I send out a calendar with the payment schedule on it. This is to simplify matters and assure a certain level of commitment on the student's part. A semester goes for 10 weeks starting with the Fall that goes from September 5 to November 11 . If student's family cant pay the full tuition in September I work out a special arrangement with that family. This has worked best of other options that I have tried over the years. It helps me know if there are financial issues that may come up. And to learn the violin one need to may that commitment. In terms of pricing I change $25 per half hour per semester and for the second family member its $20 per hour per semester.
