Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
New students will typically call Magdon Music and ask for Natalie. Natalie will then ask a few questions and then pair them up with the teacher best suited for the student and their time schedule.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our teachers all have veteran teaching experience and have taken college courses in music/music education. We only hire experienced musicians who can teach and play professionally.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are $20/per and last 1/2 hour.
How did you get started teaching?
All of our teachers at Magdon Music have a passion for music & music performance. All have studied privately and have developed a deep love for music! Teaching was a natural progression for them.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have all types of students! We have youngsters as young as 5 or 6 and we even have some students who are senior citizens! Our oldest student here was a mandolin student who was 85!
We have some students with speical needs too. Autistic students do very well here (especially on instruments like the drums!). If there is a student with special needs- we do our very best to pair him/her with the teacher best suited.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We have many students who have made it to regional band- which is quite the accomplishment! We are so happy when we hear of this because regionals are so competative!
Our band recitals are held in our very own recording studio which is inside of our Magdon Music Store! We record the recital and parent's are able to purchase the CD at a minimal cost and keep as a keepsake! Our students LOVE that they are recorded! Makes them feel like the movie stars that they are!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Understand that each musical instrument will require practice and learning. No one just picks up a musical instrument without effort.
If you are interested in learning an instrument- sign a contract with yourself that you will be dedicated to at least 6 months of lessons/practice before deciding whether to go on or to stop. The first 6 months will be exciting and challenging! When you get to that point- you will know if it is for you or not. Of course, make sure you have time carved out in your week for practice. Students who practice get further faster!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student should think of what instrument they like and why. Questions can be anything from "How long until I can play a song?" to "How long & how much effort until I can become a good player?"
A student should have an idea of why they want to play in the first place.
